Facebook Posts

Ref: The thing about posting unsubstantiated stories and photos of, particularly alleged gruesome crimes on FB---e.g. Cannibalism. Mutilation or dismemberment etc or whatever that is so sick out there.  Social Media - It's a powerful thing. As  proven, it could topple governments. It could cause social unrest. Yes, social media is a powerful instrument. However, it's a double edged sword. It could be a tool for good and evil but mind you it has no permanent master, it has no allegiance to whatever school of thoughts. It's a beast! Not that you can blame it for being a beast, it is it's nature.

Remember the adage that the path to hell is paved with good intentions? Yes, you might think that posting all those gruesome posts, pictures and videos in the net, you are doing society a favour, creating awareness? But have you considered the other consequences?

The negative sides are:

1) You are helping to desensitizing people from these violence. These atrocities. As it is, if comments in social media is any indication, some people view this as a sport. People get whack, get hacked, some smart arses post some smart aleck comments eventhough they don't know the full story behind the incidents.

2) People no longer could differentiate what is fake and what is true - So the next time you post some gruesome crime and horrible and horrendous violence, people would just shrug it off as being a product of 'photoshop'! Remember the story about the boy who cried wolf too many often.

3) It is disrespectful for the victims and their families. Nuff said here unless you are really that dense.

Remember the Tanduo intrusion? If you don't realise it now, there were a lot subversive posts and videos posted online meant to divide us.

P.s/- This coming from someone who has used social media to do something good and is aware its potential for good and bad.
